HALLOWEEN MUMMIES

SAVE RECIPE

If you are looking for an easy and cute Halloween meal recipe for babies, this is a great one to add to the list! These yummy mummies are spooktacularly tasty, and bigger kids and grown-ups will want a bite too.

Thanks to @yummy_little_belly for sharing this terrific recipe!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sheet of shortcrust pastry
  • 1 fruity Babease pouch
  • Edible eyes or raisins

METHOD

  • 1 Preheat the oven to 200ºC and line a baking sheet with baking parchment paper (or use the parchment from the pastry packet).
  • 2 Unroll the shortcrust pastry, and using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut off one-fourth of the pastry and set aside. Then divide the rest of the pastry into 12 rectangles.
  • 3 Place 1-2 tablespoons of the Babease pouch in the centre of each rectangle.
  • 4 Cut the reserved shortcrust into thin strips and layer them on the rectangles decoratively to look like mummies, making sure to leave space for the eyes.
  • 5 Place in the oven and allow to bake for 15-20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • 6 Serve warm or cold and decorate with edible eyes or raisins.

Once these Halloween mummies have been baked, you can store them in an airtight container and enjoy them for up to two days.

Somebody’s Watching Me!

When it comes to choosing the ingredient for the eyes of your Halloween mummies, you need to consider the age of your baby, as those under 12 months won’t be able to eat the edible eyes, as they are made of sugar. Instead, swap out the edible eyes for raisins or blueberries!

Older children and adults can instead have the ones with edible eyes on.

Can Babies Eat Pastry?

Pastry can be used as part of baby-led weaning meals and also makes great meals for toddlers and older kids too. Using pastry is useful for weaning, as cooked pastry offers a structured food that is easy for little hands to hold onto and eat themselves.
